Inspirational texts for my Film Magazine front cover

I have used these three film magazine front covers as inspiration for my own work because I feel the one striking image is enough to capture the audience and introduce them to the film that this magazine has wrote a review on.
In my magazine front cover I would like to have a strong image that entices target audiences to go and pick up this magazine and go and see my film.

I am using these three trailers as inspiration for my own trailer because they follow the horror genre and this is visibly obvious throughout and captures the target audience. The use of sound and music is very important and in my trailer I will pick a music edit that carries the chilling suspense that is needed to capture a audience for a horror film. The trailer lies heavily on the tense and chilling music and this aspect is crucial to the success of a horror trailer and film. A trailer would not have good impact if it was not for the carefully selected soundtrack.

Initial Inspiration for my Genre and Film Poster

The sepia colouring and the font instantly shows that this is a horror film and indicates this to the target audience.

I specifically like the simplistic but terrifying effect this image gives. Eye contact connects with the audience drawing them into the film. 

I like how the image is a shot taken directly from the film. This already introduces the audience to the film and draws them in.

The predominately black background sets the dark mood and tone to the film before the target audience go and see the film.

I like how the main image is a cartoon drawing which is something that is not usually seen for a horror film or any genre that is not animation.

Nicole Kidman's fearful expression will influence the way the target audience feel when they look at this film poster.

I like the simplistic effect of the film poster but still manages to give a creepy and chilling effect. I also like how it subverts the usual black background for a horror film which makes this unique.

This image reflects the film title. It is extremely creepy and would attract audiences who love horror films as the genre is very clear from the film poster. 

Films with a hybrid genre of Horror, Mystery and Thriller.
These films do not include strong gore and usually include ghosts and spirits.

The posters for these films usually consist of one main, striking image which immediately displays the genre to the target audience and gives off a chilling effect.
In particular I like The Grudge and The Others film poster and will use these as inspiration for when I create my own film poster for my teaser trailer.

The Brief

A promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with two of the following three options:

a website homepage for the film;

a film magazine front cover, featuring the film;

a poster for the film.


I have decided to create a horror/ghost story genre film trailer alongside a film magazine front cover and a film poster.
